Hi, I’m Dr. Ailis Brosnan – Wellness Expert and Passionate Advocate for Mid-Life Health

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. My business is the culmination of over 30 years of experience in health, fitness, and wellness, with a focus on helping women thrive in mid-life. I’ve worked across the UK, USA, and Ireland, passionately helping individuals unlock their energy, boost their confidence, and live with joy through a holistic approach that blends mindset, nutrition, and fitness. My mission is to help you take control of your health and create the vibrant life you deserve.

Having traveled and lived in diverse regions such as India, the Middle East, Africa, South America, Europe, and the USA, I’ve had the privilege of exploring various approaches to health and wellness. Over the years I recognised the need for an integrated model of health which values the importance of creating health on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual..   This understanding has shaped my approach to health and wellness, which combines the latest research with a broad holistic outlook.

I am an enthusiastic exerciser, an advocate of plant-based diets and value the importance of a spiritual practice. I embody what I teach and I am incredibly passionate about helping others achieve a healthier, more fulfilled life.

My life experience

Despite always living a healthy lifestyle, there was a time when I wasn’t truly living life to its fullest. In my 20s, I was an eternal student and traveler, seized opportunites as they came my way – from moving to San Francisco after graduation to exploring the Middle East on my own to going to India with two weeks notice for a month and staying for six. But once I got married and had children, a part of me was lost in the demands of motherhood. My joi de vivre, my joy for life, gradually diminished.

It wasn’t until my brother unexpectedly passed away in 2017 that I got the wake-up call I needed. I realized how precious life is and how we never know what’s around the corner – each day we have is a blessing.  I began focusing more on doing what brought me joy and embracing personal development. “Do more of what brings me joy” became my mantra. Separating from my husband in 2019 led to two challenging years, but it made me stronger and more appreciative of the good times. Now I am fully embracing life, not putting anything off, saying yes, saying wow and saying thank you more often.

My qualifications and research

I hold a first class honours degree in Exercise Science from DeMontfort University in the UK. I also have a Master’s degree in Health Promotion and Wellness Management (including nutrition, stress management and wellness), which I completed in the USA (graduated with highest honours). My third degree is a Professional Doctorate degree in Health Sciences (Psychology). I was awarded my Doctorate for the development of a physical activity programme for overweight women, which had tremendous outcomes not only in fitness and weight loss but also in terms of participants’ well-being and happiness.

In addition to my formal qualifications, I have various certifications including Plant Based Nutrition, Living Foods Instructor, Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant, Yoga teacher, Weight management and Nutrition, Personal Trainer, Dance Movement therapy, Mental Health First Aid Trainer, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Online Groups Training Intensive, along with certifications in a range of holistic therapies. I am continuously learning and keeping up with the latest advancements in health and wellness to ensure I provide the most effective tools and strategies to my clients.

My work experience

My work experience spans over 30 years and ranges from working as a Wellness Coordinator for a large corporation in the Silicon Valley (California, USA) to running my own Health Promotion business ‘Alive and Well’. My experience also includes working for the HSE (Ireland) where I provided advice in relation to national physical activity policies, strategies and programmes and managed a Workplace Wellness program. I have developed a number of health related resources, was a member of national steering groups of a number of organisations involved in the promotion of physical activity. I also worked as a Senior Health Promotion Specialist, supporting and assessing companies for Scotland’s Health at Work Award scheme. I have spent time volunteering in a variety of places ranging from Mother Teresa’s center in Calcutta to a Holistic Centre on a Greek island.

My passions

I live in the beautiful South West of Ireland with my two children. In my spare time, I enjoy cycling, running, hiking, dancing, swimming, bodyboarding, triathlons, mountain biking and anything else that involves moving, particularly when it’s outdoors in nature! In the past, I have won numerous running and triathlon events and was selected to represent Ireland in both the European and the World Mountain Running Championships and the World Age-group Triathlon Championships.  Now, I participate in events for the fun and the challenge – I love setting myself challenges every year and embracing life’s adventures.  Some examples include:
– Completed the Barcelona Ironman Triathlon (3.8km swim, 180km bike ride followed by a marathon)
– Did a 50km ultramarathon forest run and a 60km Kerry Way Ultra event
– Swam 8km from Blenerville to Fenit
– Cycled from one end of Ireland to the other (Mizen Head to Malin Head)
— Ran up and down Carrauntwohill (Ireland’s highest mountain)
– Completed the challenge Alpe d’Heuz Triathlon

In addition to my athletic pursuits, I love to travel (I enjoyed seven trips last year!), read, try new vegan recipes, personal development, music, and enjoy quality time with my family. Living life with passion and joy is at the heart of everything I do.
